KPMG Audit & Assurance is seeking an accomplished, market-facing Managing Director to lead audit engagements and drive practice expansion across our Digital Assets, FinTech and Emerging Technologies practice. The Managing director will serve as a premier technical and business development authority, advising high-growth digital asset exchanges, CFTC-regulated prediction markets, institutional investment managers, and technology enterprises. They will lead teams through complex accounting transactions, public offerings, SEC/CFTC regulatory clearances and PCAOB inspection defense, while actively championing AI-enabled audit workflows and firmwide apprenticeship.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead market-facing business development initiatives, establishing and expanding executive relationships with CFOs, General Counsels and Audit Committees across digital asset exchanges, fintech platforms, and institutional asset management firms to drive substantial, sustainable managed revenue
  • Serve as the practice-level subject matter expert on digital asset accounting literature (including ASU 2023-08, ASC 815 embedded derivative bifurcation in token compensation, wrapped tokens, and ASC 820), guiding clients and standard setters through novel accounting interpretations and SEC pre-clearance inquiries
  • Oversee public company audit readiness, initial public offerings (IPOs), SPAC transactions, and S-1 registration statements, executing Engagement Quality Control Reviews (EQCR) and technical resolution of complex SEC comment letters
  • Direct PCAOB and firm internal quality inspections across digital asset and financial services engagements, providing real-time technical guidance on documentation standards, auditor response strategies, and material weakness remediation
  • Champion practice-wide audit innovation by serving as an AI and technology lead—collaborating directly with developers to build, pilot and deploy AI-driven audit tools and automate complex assurance workflows
  • Direct high-performing, multi-location engagement teams, championing formal mentorship, firmwide fellowship initiatives and the technical upskilling of audit staff in emerging blockchain and digital asset accounting methodologies

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 14 years of recent progressive financial statement audit experience within a Big Four or major public accounting firm, including a proven track record of managing high-growth annual client revenue and delivering large-scale, high-intensity PCAOB audits
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Commerce or related discipline; active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license in good standing; dual licensure (e.g., CPA, CA) and/or CFA credentials (CFA Level 1 or charter holder) are highly regarded
  • Deep technical mastery of U.S. GAAP, GAAS, PCAOB, and IFRS standards, with demonstrated authority in crypto-asset fair value accounting (ASU 2023-08), derivative accounting (ASC 815), share- and token-based compensation (ASC 718), revenue recognition (ASC 606), and leases (ASC 842)
  • In-depth technical familiarity with digital asset market infrastructure, including digital asset exchanges, institutional custody frameworks, tokenized assets, prediction markets (CFTC-regulated) and decentralized finance protocols
  • Demonstrated leadership in deploying cutting-edge audit technology and AI enablement across regional or firmwide audit teams, bridging the gap between technical accounting requirements and technical developer capabilities
  • Proven ability to originate new client relationships independently, maintain trusted-advisor status with institutional executive teams and boards and coach teams through complex predecessor auditor transitions and tight filing deadlines
